Christmas in July, 18 July 2017 & 2018:
Christmas in July is one our most impactful events as it takes place on Mandela Day at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The purpose of the event is to brighten each child’s day with an individualised present from an anonymous donor. Hope2Happiness invites the community to participate by creating personalised gifts (“Hope-boxes”) and the response is always outstanding. We have seen how children’s faces light up when they receive their gifts and how one small act of kindness can truly make a difference.
Soup kitchen:
This is always a huge success. Our visits to the Simondium and Vlottenburg communities, as well as the Stellenbosch dump site, was truly an eye opening experience. We are reminded of the urgent need to provide our communities with basic food and nutrition. The success of our 'Soup kitchen' events, is largely attributed to our sponsors for their generous contributions, making it possible to feed the hungry and uplift our community.
March for winter:
This was our second project this year, we walked through the residential streets of Stellenbosch, collecting clothes from the residents, by knocking on their doors and asking for support. It was a successful day, collecting a garage full of clothes. All the clothes we collected, we categorised in size and age, ready to be handed out on each winter project. Our first stop was a children’s home next to the du Toit Station in Stellenbosch, handing out the clothes we collected for them. The second stop was the Vlottenburg Chalets next to the Adamtas road, we enjoyed the afternoon with them handing out clothes, playing games and making friends.
Easter event in Vlottenburg
At Vlottenburg primary we enjoyed some quality time with kids handing out lunch and playing some games, sport and dancing the lunch away.
Outreach to Vlottenburg:
We provided the community of Vlottenburg with various clothing and bedding items in order to protect them against the harsh conditions of the Winter season.
